US2U Consulting Say Farewell to Summer Intern

Since joining the team as a paid Summer Intern at the beginning of July, Lee Casey has fitted in as a valued member of the US2U Consulting team. Along the way, he has managed to squeeze in time for the Broadland Business Breakfast, Norfolk Chamber Roundtable Discussion, Norwich 4 Jobs Support Club as well as learning How Millennials are Reshaping our World! It has been good that he has been able to attend a range of networking events and shadow Director Rachel Blackburn in a variety of client meetings.

"It has been great to work with US2U Consulting over the past month as it has enabled me to gain valuable experience in a professional environment. I have learnt the importance of being adaptable and look forward to completing my degree confident in the knowledge that I can operate effectively in a real world consulting company" commented Lee.

Lee now returns to the University of East Anglia for the final year of his Psychology BSc, with the aim of securing a graduate scheme position in the 2018 recruitment cycle.

Exploring the Fruits of our Labour Market at The Enterprise Centre

Both Kerwin Blackburn and Lee Casey attended a talk organised by Chadwicks Ltd on Tuesday 18 July at the University of East Anglia's Enterprise Centre, about 'How Millennials are Reshaping our World'.

The talk covered long-term socio-economic trends and their implications for both businesses and investors and the effects of population change on global labour markets. It also highlighted how Millennials, born between 1980 and 2000, have shifting priorities that require businesses to adapt their products and services.

The session provided interesting insights into what businesses need to prioritise in order to increase productivity and keep up in the rapidly growing knowledge economy. The three main avenues stressed upon were the importance of education, constructive technology and urbanisation.

The changing expectations of so called 'Digital Natives' were also discussed, as it is known that Millennials now value interactive and user-friendly digital environments, reflecting the value of having a bespoke US2U Consulting-produced Commercial Video.

Unscrambling New Data Protection Laws at Broadland Business Breakfast Forum

Kerwin Blackburn and intern Lee Casey attended the Broadland Business Breakfast Forum on Wednesday 12 July at Sprowston Manor, where the issues of changing data protection laws and adapting to today's online world were discussed.

The topic of the changing data protection laws explored how our relationships with data are evolving and the considerations that businesses must take ahead of the new General Data Protection Regulation being introduced in May 2018.

Interestingly, although these are EU regulations, it turns out that any business supplying goods and services to EU citizens must adhere to these rules - which may also be indicative of how other EU legislation could continue to apply to the UK following the nation's impending departure from the European Union.

The forum also featured the top tips for adapting to the online world, with key takeaways including the importance of having a responsive website (we launched a responsive version us2uconsulting.com earlier in 2017!) and the need to engage with 'digital natives'.

Circling Key Issues at Norfolk Chamber Roundtable Discussion

Both Kerwin Blackburn and new recruit Lee Casey attended the Norfolk Chamber's Roundtable Discussion on Tuesday 11 July in Hethersett.

This discussion allowed businesses throughout Norfolk to have their say and pitch key ways in which they feel the region can increase business productivity and ensure growth across a range of sectors. The feedback will inform the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership's upcoming Economic Strategy for Norfolk - the first update since 2014.

Following initial group talks and collective discussions amongst 51 members of the Norfolk Chamber, many tables seemed to cover the prominent issue of broadband speed and connectivity in the region. Alongside this, many delved into deeper issues such as the need to improve physical and digital infrastructure, rebrand Norfolk as a hub for young professionals and fill a skills gap in the region.

These findings reflect the need for the People Development and Training services that US2U Consulting offers to clients, tailored to meet the requirements of both the individuals and the organisation.

"It is great to have the opportunity to work with US2U Consulting and gain valuable professional experience while applying the learning from my degree in a dynamic, real-world environment. Rising Powers: From Brexit to Bricsit

Kerwin Blackburn attended a lecture organised by the University of Manchester's Global Development Institute and delivered by Professor Alan Winters on Friday 23 June in Manchester, titled Taking Interdependency Seriously: Brexit and the Rising Powers.

Asking what the future holds for the UK following the country's departure from the EU, the lecture gave an overview of the key strengths and opportunities concerning the UK's relationships with the 5 main emerging 'BRICS' - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - in what has been termed the UK's 'BRICSIT' movement.

The lecture provided interesting insights into what the UK needs to do to build greater working relationships with our counterparts in these emerging parts of the world.

This complements the Cultural Awareness and Intercultural Communication service that US2U Consulting offer to our clients to ensure they are best placed to overcome challenges and make the most of the UK's transition to a more interdependent future.

Backstage for Good!

Some of the US2U Consulting team attended the second night of Take That's Wonderland Live tour dates at Norwich City's Carrow Road on Friday 16 June.

Aside from a brilliant gig there was another point of interest for us, which came after most people had already headed for the exits...

We stayed behind to catch a glimpse of some of the backstage team - which included 30 lorries and over 270 people - to watch their well-drilled packing up routine.

This was a great example of teamwork and precision, with each individual working under intense time pressure and knowing their exact role, along with distinct teams of people working effectively alongside each other to ensure the gear could soon hit the road for Take That's night date. Watch a clip of what we saw below!
